As some of you know I have been on a search for a blade. Found the rubber I will use. Now all I need is the right blade. Since the first of the year when my doctor let me come back. (Shoulder operation, remember?) I have used 4 different blades.
1) Butterfly Mat Pro
2) Stiga Allround
3) Butterfly Grubba Pro
4) TSP Reflex 50
The Mat Pro is a very easy bat to use. Soft and a lot of control. But like I have said before the handle is way too small. Some players use it as a C-Pen. Because of that, falls to the bottom of my list.
The Stiga is a good solid bat that can do it all. But it does nothing that great. Avg performance. I do like the handle.
The Grubba Pro is a great bat that will chop all day and into the night. Awesome control and enough speed to hit past someone. Little to no vibration. But the problem is that with the LP I use, the person I play is able to keep looping all my chops. Not good.
HMMM. The TSP. The control is not that good. The speed is pretty slow. Takes some getting used to keeping the ball on the table. But I will tell you what. I have yet to have anyone at my club be able to get more than 2 loops off of my chops. This is not your moms blade here. Hard to control and if your not 100% into your game you will get frustrated. The handle is skinny and slick. I put handle tape on mine. I feel that this blade will be the best bet for me.
The other night I had the TSP and the Grubba sitting on the table and would alternate every point. They had soo much more trouble against the TSP. I think because the TSP was softer than the Grubba it allowed more dwell time and allow me to manipulate the ball more. All I know is it is working better than anything I have used to date. I am still trying to control it with the Curl on it. Its not very forgiving. But this is good for me because I have to keep my head in the game and not daydream. I do need to keep a loose grip or it tends to sail long.
I think I will keep it for awhile.

That's the TSP 50 Defence right?

Odd... If the blade is slower and has more dwell time it should give you more control as well as well as more spin... Control is always a tricky one though, as it's so subjective

I'm wondering why the ball keeps sailing long.. perhaps you're coming under the ball too much instead of brushing the back of the ball? Or perhaps you're not quite chopping down fast enough?

I think the trouble with control comes only once in awhile. When my chops go long I have noticed I grip the handle tight. I also have a tendency to hit the ball instead of spinning it. Its hard to explain but I'm working on it.

Why don't you modify the handle of your matsushita pro, or have someone modify it for you?

I have thought about taking it to a wood shop to see if they could take the handle off of a Dr.Neabauer Special Blade and put it on the Mat Pro Blade and fill in the holes. That handle had the best fit for me. Its a shame the top sheet of wood ripped off. I might just look into this a little more.
I'm going to the Highland Tourney next month so I don't want to be switching around right now.
Hit with the Stiga for about 1 hour last night. Very head heavy. Getting the best results with the TSP blade. Lots of movment.
