I have watched the video of Joo Vs Boll, I am not convinced that the LP won him the game. I though Joo just played very well and Boll played like a dog. Joo seems to be back to a better mix of attacking and defending. I liked the few BH kills with LP ( my favourite shot BTW )

I do think that from the picture the LP does look like Dtecs. And Kim Taek So told me Joo was trying it Tibhar so it all stacks up.

But nice to see the defenders beating attackers with their brain.

Seeing the backhand of Joo on the pictures and the video's, I also suspect that he's using the DTechs. The question is now: why? Some thoughts:

1) More attacking possibilities due to the tension in the pimples;
2) More stability in his defense;
3) A little more reversal than the P1-R.

The final point brings me to some other thought: due to all the hype from blocking players here concerning Dtechs and its reversal, is it possible that Joo is reading this forum and tried the Dtechs with sponge?

Cheers,

Lorre

It's so frustrating to keep seeing Joo lose against Ma, but he played amazingly well. I can't imagine a higher level of defense possible. Ma is simply unbeatable; he's a robot.

Here are some rescent matches displaying first Joo playing very good (agianst Z Jike in Chineese Superleauge) and then playing not so good against Wang Ha an Jike in China vs the World and then against Boll in Japan Open. It looks in the last three matches that Joo are a bit slower, maybe a bit out of shape? Or is it just that they are all aiming for his body and feet? He seems to have real problems moving to the side and chop when these balls are thrown at him. He also seems to have some problems with his FH attack. What do you think? I hope he will be back in better shape, it's more fun to watch :(

I recently watched those matches too and I also think he's a little out of shape. I agree with the points you mention. He's a little slower and with his style that's deadly against good opponents. But that phenomenon is not unusual for Joo... He has periods that he plays like a crazy man and periods that he plays like a little bit less crazy man. :D But his shape will come back...

Has he really changed to D-tecs?????
If so it's not really working for him.... Also Joo is playing to passive on the Fh.

I have to disagree with you on that, metal monkey. At the moment he's not playing very well (although getting to the semi finals in the Japan Open and getting defeated by a strong Boll is not bad), but he already played a tremendous season this year using the DTechs including defeating Boll and some other big guys.

I have to disagree too. I don't think that he has been playing bad this year but I don't think that the change of LP has improved his game that much either. The only thing he does better with D.Tecs is attacking, chopping seems about the same. However, he seems to attack a lot less now than a year ago and that's something that can hurt his game, IMHO.

i dont even think that he attacks more on his back hand, when he was in a looping battle when he played with p1r, he used to commonly punch drive loops down the line with his pips, while with d tecs he rarely, if ever does this, but waits for a bad push in order to open up with his pips
