Awsome video!!! Those matches with He Zhi Wen playing a choppers are great for observing the technique of the top choppers. Who was the chopper in the clip at 5:42?

Can't say for sure - but looks like Matsushita to me based on the style.

I really like watching the pros play the DEF and modern def styles. Joo provides many entertaining points:

Chen Weixing is good too:

Those were some good videos you posted beerbelly. Is there a reason why JOO has his pips in black. I know that black rubbers are naturally tackier because they dont go through the color change process like red rubbers. If he using black wouldn't his rubber would behave more like inverted? Isn't that bad for spin variation? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using red/black long pips?

Good question, and one which I dont have an answer to because tackier LP means more sensitive to spin. Actually I've seen videos of him chopping using red too. I've often wondered whether he's a twiddler to mix things up a bit...

The korean women also use black lp. All the koreans twidle very little or not at all(except serve). Seems like there is probably a coaching philosophy involved. I think the biggest benefit of the grippier black lp is in a more effective pushing game.

I think its Matsishita and Timo Boll, could be wrong. And I can and have watched it for hours. I am extremely fascinated by defensive play, used to be a defensive chopper myself. And the skill still come in handy. That instinctive chop goes into play when I am barely reaching a ball, get enough on it to send it back on the table, well, it goes back with loads of underspin.

The power of defense is under-rated.
