I chanced upon this clip which was uploaded yesterday. It's Chen versus Kenta Matsudaira in the Austrian Open. I've never seen Chen playing so well before!

Matsudaira Kenta just doesn't have the power to get through CWX. You could see that he couldn't read CWX's fhs either.

CWX just counterlooped really well through the first loop against backspin, really visible in the first few exchanges shown.

Great rallies, indeed. :)

I'll have to wait till I get home to watch the clip. I'm looking forward to it!

Question: Is this the same tournament that Chen was disqualified from?

JSK - I guess so. The clip is from team event, not single.
Kenta tried to avoid Chen's FH several times but Chen footwork is so fast.

Does anyone feel like Schlager played at 60 or 70% in this match?

I've seen it awhile ago, there's another clip where Kentra gets Blown away by Chen Qi since Chen has more power....

Nice clip BB, really good rallies.... I love how funky Kentra serves look.

CWX's forehand technique really does, quite magnificently, lend itself to disguised placement.

I don't think I'll ever have the confidence that Kenta has in doing those funky serves.

I really like those serves as well, and while I can figure out to do varying forms of underspin/side spin serves, I was wondering if you can actually do topspin serves with that form of service technique.

You can get topspin from the speed of the ball as it's falling...you don't need to impart the spin with the rubber, if you know what i mean...

You can get significant top and side spin, by brushing up the back of the ball with a 'tomahawk' action, a 'seasoned tomahawker' can deliver side and chop or side and top, or just plain sidespin, with the same action, the only thing that needs to vary for this, is the contact point.

I never really noticed how small CCY was before I watched that.

Oh, and the other guy is a pips out penhold hitter.

Uggggh, both CWX and CCY are fleet of foot -- pretty obvious when CWX starts attacking, and CCY when he played that hitter.

I likey. :D

Very explosive game, that pips hitter one!
