17 sessions of just under 1 hour each, this series shows the progress of 6 Chinese boys who are professionally trained in the basics of the art of table tennis. Shakehanders, penholders, pips-out-ers, they are all there and participate. Slow? Tedious? This is how you learn! Certainly beats my article on single sided pips out... http://outpost81.com/coaching/Chinese_P ... essons.htm

Seeing that and this humbles me. Maybe I should work on rallying first?

Just had to bring up this Chinese training video.

I wonder what the stick is for. Maybe I should get one.

The thing which helps these players come on so fast is the quality of the feeding. You could probably reach the level in the second vid in around a year with good feeding. If you put two beginners on a table and they only practice with each other you might take 2-3 times as long. It is so important in clubs that the better players give a little of their time to bring on some of the junior players.

Speaking of the second vid from Kees, there was this section about distances

? 30-50 cm
?? 50-70 cm
??? 70-100 cm
???? 100cm

Err, I'm guessing it's playing distances, but does someone know what those are?

Oh yeah, there's this set of videos -- very nice, covers quite a lot of ground and even some advanced techniques for choppers. If I had a high-res video of this, it'll be a classic!

Then again, even standard resolution, it's a classic. :D

Having watched these videos, yes I am impressed but now can someone tell me why this is better then hitting with a robot? To me, lots of the drills looks just the same so the feeder/blocker could be replaced by a robot...

You got the point

The slight shifting of the playing line as well as the occasional beautiful blocker () are good reasons for multi-ball than the robot.

For some strange reason, I work a lot better with a person feeding multi than a robot. It's also probably due to being able to see the stroke of the other person.
