As mentioned on DTTW, my father and I have got to work on uploading hundreds of old VHS TT matches onto youtube (a very slow process, analogue to digital = real time nightmarish).

However, the first such match is up and there is more to come today and then some. Vids will be on my and his youtube accounts (so he can plug his juggling at the same time, ).

First one is here :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49rKpgLRpTA

Enjoy!

So many currently considered faulty services it hurts my eyes! It's a pretty old video, Hilton was playing with two black rubbers.

Anyway, it's table tennis history, and a beautiful set. I would like more points like the ones on this video on actual matches.

Thanks for sharing!

I thought the world of the dark side might appreciate this a little more than DTTW

The other sets from that will be up at some point. The next video should be up if you click that link then go for 'more from this user'. It's a small clip (40 seconds ish) but is classic Grubba :)

Glad you guys called it 'classic' and beautiful - the DTTW modern era looping crowd don't seem to find the beauty in it.

Great stuff TTsam!

Much more enjoyable to watch than most of the latest stuff! The next clip is pretty awesome too, you just don't see rally like that anymore...

Please keep posting the links here as you upload them!

Cheers!

That is amazing- one of those black rubbers is fairly slick anti?

Wow, an extreme anti, and only their mother can tell them apart...

Those were the days!

I was told that this John Hilton combo was the reason for the black and red-rule, the ITTF was never supportive of deceptive strategies.

he uses it extremely well, some of the returns were completely misread...

Wow, history. Those guys went at it. They had big hair and looked fit. At that time, I was 50 kg and had rock star long hair. now, I am at 90 kg and have very close cut hair.

Eric Owens (USA, Seemiller Grip) played in Europe for a couple of years and attacked aggressively with his fast twiddling Anti. Top players apparently complained bitterly (after he beat them).

Eric reached a W/ranking in the mid 20's ? I think, but beat virtually everyone at one time or another. Danny Seemiller reached a slightly higher ranking but didn't create as much of a stir, because he mainly used his anti to return serve.

Cheers again TTsam!

I notice that their serves are so much different... most are deep and often don't seem that spinny... I wonder why?

I'd say because spin was much more feared and so players first balls were nearly always rolled - now they would be loop-driven off those services.
