You will need to toss the ball higher to create momentum. Watch some He Zhi Wen's videos may help...

thats what i'm doing (and what i did with the inverted also)

which type of spin is better to use when serving with SPs?
for some reason i found that serving backspin with SPs isnt good while sidespin works better
(and with inverted it was the opposite for me)

Maybe it is also helpful for you to see the videos on my youtube channel "pascalt1986": I switched from inverted rubber to short pips. And my services are still effective. Especially with the backhand!

well pascal, i was looking at you channel and tried to learn
today i went to my club, and thx god - our best player was there! (he isnt there much)
i served ONLY with bh, most of the time backspin or backside spin
worked like a charm
whenever i tried to serve the same but with fh it didnt work
so i guess i should improve my fh or just stick with the bh

thx =]

Some SP's are better at serving than others. They would probably the SP that are sticky or grippy on the list at the top of this section.

Challenger is not grippy so you won't get a lot of spin on your serves. A more grippy SP, like Tango Ultra which I use can generate quite heavy spin on serve. My best advice is to twiddle on serve and hide your bat during the toss. Deception is your biggest weapon. Make your opponent wait til the last minute before he can see which side you serve off.

Gao Jun uses only challenger attack. She uses a penhold grip so her motions are quite different, but she's got a mean serve, check out videos of her.

Miao Miao is a shakehands player with excellent serves. She uses TSP Spinpips.

There is plenty of her in the vid section.

however you do it - look for as long a contact as you can, a fast action with short contact won't generate spin with sp

yes that is my problem with the FH serve, i used to do a short quick flick with the wrist, fastest as i can so the oppornent wouldnt be able to decide the spin
thats why my fh serves with SPs are easy to return

the bh serves i do a long motion but didnt think about it until pascal pointed that out =]

roundrobin says Gao Jun has a special extra spinny version of Challenger Attack, not the same product we can buy off the shelf.

Dr. Neubauer has this short forehand chop serve that seems to not get attacked. Coach McAfee also has some good short pip forehand serves. There are several videos of those guys around to study. There are videos of a few other good SP forehand guys, too.
